Transform your kilowatts in trees
for Haiti

November 20, 2010

Volts Energies is involved, with the cooperation of “Trees for the future”, a non-prot company, to plant trees on the haitian territory. For every KW sold to our customer, 4 trees are planted. When you help us plant these trees, you contribute to balance the carbon dioxide emissions, released into atmosphere. Each tree can

offset an average of 50 lbs of CO2 emitted per year. An act of kindness to help haitian people who needs to reforest, while contributing to protect the environment.
We aim to plant more than 10 000 trees, we would be very grateful if you help us to reach this target.
A certicate will be released to you to validate

the number of trees which were planted thanks to your contribution, as well as the amount of CO2 balanced.

When generators and environment
get on well

20 Avril 2011

Plant trees when buying a generator. is is the formula launched by the company Volts Energies, early in March, to stimulate the conscience of his 500 customers and to “do his part of the job” for environment. “I worked on
a project to place energy systems in Haiti houses. Studying a few of the country history, we realized that they did not have anymore trees.”, reports Sébastien Caron, company president and founder. Volts Energies, which says itself “aware to the environmental  cause”, had therefore the idea of  planting trees to balance the  greenhouse eect gasses released by its generators.

Four trees for a kilowatt.
e company, which sells generators from 2 KW to 100 KW, has already planted more than 1000 trees, since the project launch,

last month. “For each kilowatt we undertake to plant four trees - explain Alexandra Mailhot, the company secretary. - So, on an average sale, there are about a hundred planted trees.”
Having passed the checkout, the company delivers a certicate to each customer, a conrmation of how many trees will be planted.

«We have a social consciousness».

The company, which develops renewable energy projects, in particular on retrieving the heat released by the generators, wishes to invite its customers to take their “responsability above all”.

“When our customers call us, we try to make them lower the loads which are going to be on the generator to decrease its power and to reduce the greenhouse eect gasses emitted.

We earn nothing on doing so, but we have a social consciousness.”, concludes Mr. Caron.Since March 1st and the start of the operation, the company Volts Energies planted 1469 trees and wishes to reach its target of 10 000 trees by the end of May, 2012.

Volts: energy for sale

Fall 2011

Volts Energies is a dynamic company
renowned for — as its name suggests —
designing and fabricating ecient energy
systems. Since its creation in 2003, this
company with its 15 employees resembles a
small dynamo.

The circuit.

Highly multidisciplinary in its approach, this Laval company acts as an engineering rm, its team capable of taking on projects right from the concept and design stage. Its specialists can also carry out energy eciency audits to provide an accurate picture of the client’s needs. Even before the submission stage, it
oers recommendations to minimize energy demand. e team can engineer tailored systems as well as assemble and t them onsite.

“Our facilities allow us to deliver integrated systems and do everything in-house, from engineering to installation, including 3D design and bench testing,” explains Sébastien
Caron, founder and president of Volts. “It’s also one of our strengths and allows us to build an atmosphere of trust with our clients.”

Rightly so, and in terms of clients, Volts Energies targets (among others)  consumers who lack traditional access to the electricity grid, remote  organizations and companies (outtters, forest industries, etc.), as well as services for commercial, industrial and residential users. Its products run from generators that operate in tandem (energy

combinations, optimization and recycling), to renewable energy and turnkey solutions. The house specialty? Hybrid energy containers.

“We’re really focusing on building hybrid energy containers,” says Mr. Caron. “ese are ‘plug-and-play’ designs that give you all the elements you need for a complete power supply solution for a given structure. We build it in pieces that connect up. ey’re easy to transport, robust and are all factory-tested. Once the container is in place at our client’s facility, we oer their employees training in
how to start up and run the system.”

Good vibrations.

A responsible and committed company, Volts puts together the best products available on the local market to obtain a fast return on investment along with the maximum power output possible. “Whenever possible, we buy Quebec and Canadian products, although we also have U.S. suppliers. Like-for-like, we always prefer home-grown products, even if they’re sometimes more expensive,” adds Mr.Caron.

Apart from its commitment to hybrid and renewable energy sources, improving the eciency of power production and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, Volts spares no eort to be proactive and innovative on environmental issues. The company has put in place a tree-planting programme. When Volts installs a new power
production system, it plants trees in Haiti to match the size of the project. e target is to

plant 10,000 trees in the rst year, and so far it looks pretty much on track.

And that’s not all. Volts is also posting steady growth, mainly thanks to the support of the  Centre local de développement (CLD) de Laval, which provides  much-needed funding, opportunities for networking and hooking up with other Laval  businesses, and help in  connecting with the right job-seekers.
Business is booming and will soon be doing even better.

“Next year, we’re aiming at tripling the floor area of our facilities,” says Mr. Caron. “And we’ll soon be moving to even bigger premises.
We want to make our infrastructure totally autonomous in terms of energy by adopting  LEED standards and using solar, wind and geothermal technologies which we can combine with hydro.

“We’ve also led a patent for our cogeneration technology, which is unique in its genre. It uses systems for recovering waste energy from internal combustion generators to increase the motors’ energy eciency from 35% to over
80%, which is substantial.” In  short, the Volts Energies engine is running full blast!
